Attempting the most dangerous route up Helvellyn - Striding Edge
Striding Edge in the Lake District is widely considered one of the most dangerous routes up Helvellyn, the third highest mountain in England.
Having climbed Crib Goch in Snowdonia one year before, Striding Edge seemed like a strong contender to take on next.
We set out from Glenridding and hiked up to Birkhouse Moor, which then took us to the start of the knife edge ridge known as Striding Edge, before summiting Helvellyn itself. Discussing the 1926 Helvellyn plane landing, we then hiked down another ridge - Swirral Edge, over the shoulder of Catstye Cam, down past Red Tarn, along Red Tarn Beck which became Glenridding Beck and then back into Glenridding.
