How trail running EXHAUSTION can catch you out (500K Days 16-23)

Unlike shorter 5K ad 10K runs, the exhaustion of multi day running, ultra marathons and trail running can creep up on you quite unexpectedly. Running 500km, the equivalent of 100 parkruns or 11.8 marathons, is a physical and mental experiment that tests the body's resources. Energy levels can drastically fluctuate, and that is something I discovered during this period of running 10 miles every day without a break.
